Thank you for your good sense assessment. Burnham fails in his attempt to get into parliament and at least he remains mayor. If he blows up when challenged by Starmer it will be to the good. Labour MPs can get on with the job for 2/3 more years.

Thank you - well framed perspectives. I’d agree with almost all - and one comment re the snake oil salesmanship of the current Green Party made me rethink some of my views. Starmer’s “miss steps” re the EU, re Gaza, and re the jailing of protestors have to my mind been egregious. But Starmer is still way better than the entire set of recent Conservative PMs. Nevertheless the trivial issue of “popularity” is necessary to fight a populist such as Farage. Burnham’s hardly better - perhaps worse - than Starmer on the issues that concern me, but if he shores up grass roots support for Labour, all for the better.
